About uPaged

We’re shaking up the way nurses, doctors and allied healthcare workers source work, and how hospitals and healthcare facilities fill workforce gaps

uPaged is the first online marketplace of its kind in the world, connecting the healthcare talent in a more informed, rewarding and meaningful way

Inspired by Amazon and its marketplace; by Uber for its convenience; by Hinge for the informed decision making it enables, and by TripAdvisor for its feedback loop of 2-way ratings and testimonials. We call it uPaged, because, in healthcare, you only page the specialists

We enjoy working alongside a fun and awesome crew of talented, highly self-motivated and driven humans, who share a passion for technology and shaping the future of healthcare talent engagement

Our Culture and Values

We’re lean and purpose-driven. Our culture is driven by respect, transparency and true ownership of our roles. We’re passionate about change and creating value. We have zero tolerance for discrimination in any form.

We’re nimble and responsive, and we’re big on collaboration – we listen and we learn from each other – and we know that makes us stronger as a team

We are Adventurers.

We are Trailblazers.

We are Compassionate and Kind.

We are Clever and Generous.

We are Honest And Considerate.

We are Authentic and We are Different.

We are Proud of our Skills and Qualifications.

We Choose The Way We Work.

We are uPaged.

About You

We hire for attitude over skills, fit over qualifications, and experience and enthusiasm trumps all (you just need to prove it to us in your application!).

You have:

Strong work ethic – you’re highly self-motivated, energetic and happy to take ownership of your role. You’re great with project management, managing deadlines, working autonomously and with the rest of the team. You’re up for a challenge. You get things done. You love showing your initiative.

Creativity – you’re good with finding cool ways of doing things without cutting corners or doing anything dodgy. You’re all about next-level quality and doing things better than the rest while solving complex problems in a simple way. You’re mindful of our start-up status.

Communication – you’re good with getting and giving feedback, you’re level-headed, and a whizz at documenting what you do. You’re cool in a crisis, and methodical and systematic in your approach. You’re not afraid to speak up, question things and propose alternate solutions. You can take direction from more senior team members.

Growth mindset – you love staying abreast of the latest development tools, programming techniques and computing equipment and you’re happy to share your intel with the team.

Attention to detail – goes without saying really, but nothing goes unnoticed by you. You’re risk-averse and your code is meticulous. You like to get it done the right way the first time around. Big picture thinking is a bonus.

Loyalty – we’re big on people who get what we do, why we’re doing it and those who genuinely want to be part of something that is shaking up a market that is steeped in old-fashioned ways. You’re in it for the long haul, just like the rest of the crew.

Need To Know
  • We’re a tech company, led by a non-tech founder (who is all over the tech), so you’ve got to be pretty tech-savvy to join us. we’re often dealing with non-tech users and customers … so you always need to be able to see things from their point of view.
  • We’re in the business of solving problems, so your communication and customer service skills are top-notch, no matter what your role is
  • None of our roles are for the faint-hearted – our roles are diverse, busy, and we all take a sleeves-rolled-up approach to whatever needs to be done within the team, so a level of flexibility and adaptability is needed. You’re not afraid to dive in to get the job done, whatever that job may be at that time
  • You love technology, you’re excited about working in a buzzy, busy, creative and sometimes challenging startup environment
  • You’re happy to speak up and share your ideas, and you’re not afraid of picking up the telephone, or making considered decisions, sometimes on the fly
  • You can take direction and follow through in a timely manner, and equally, you see what needs to be done, and you can just get on with it without waiting for someone to tell you what to do
  • Organised? it’s a given, along with high attention to detail – you don’t miss a thing, and if you code for us, it’s impeccable
  • Yes, we’re a startup, but we don’t have arcade games, free food, rock climbing walls, bean bags or nap pods, and we don’t do merch. We do have a great coffee machine, a single-minded mission, a great crew and a heck of a lot of fun working together to change the world of work for healthcare talen
  • The health and safety of our people is paramount, and collectively, our team has agreed to public health recommendations on covid-19 vaccinations. Our expectation and that of our customers is that all our people are fully covid-19 vaccinated or have a valid medical exemption from doing so

We don’t expect you to know how to use any the following, but it’s a bonus if you can:

Our Tech Stack and Tools:

  • Node.js (Backend)
  • React.js (Frontend)
  • MongoDB
  • AWS
  • Sendgrid
  • OneSignal
  • Atlassian (Bitbucket, Jira & Confluence)
  • React Native
  • CI/CD Pipelines and Automation
  • WordPress, and, of course, our proprietary (and very clever) tech
How We Hire

Sure, you’ll generally need to have some skills and experience, but we place an equal value on fit with our team and vibe, your enthusiasm, and we seek out those who can add value to our whole organisation with skills and experience we don’t have. We especially rate those who show initiative (show us yours in your application!)

We read every application carefully – please make sure you read the section below about ‘What Happens After You Apply’.

Diversity And Inclusion

We take inclusion and diversity seriously. We live our values and foster a culture of transparency, integrity, collaboration, curiosity, quality, and creativity. Please take the time to read through our position on diversity and inclusion. And if you require adjustments to our recruitment process to support you, or in your potential new workplace to help you thrive at uPaged, please let us know.

Outside of Australia - Remote Work

Our full-time remote team members work exclusively for uPaged. While we fully appreciate that some full-time team members may have side gigs, our expectation is that uPaged is your main job.

Team members who are based outside of Australia work with sufficient time zone overlap so that they can attend our daily stand-ups, our evening sprint planning meetings and our weekly retrospectives held at midday on Friday.

We work to Sydney, Australia working hours (Australian Eastern Standard Time) and start our working day with a 9:00 am standup.

We don’t work with overseas outsourcing agencies or overseas workers acting as agents who pass work engagements onto other parties, rather, we directly engage and work with individuals.

We do not pay Australian pay rates to overseas team members, rather, we pay competitive location-based rates considering your skills, experience and qualifications.

Sydney-based Team Members - Hybrid Work

Hybrid working at uPaged means you usually attend the office twice a week on Monday and Thursday, and/or other days as required by your manager. The rest of time you may work from home.

It is our expectation that local team members complete their induction, orientation, on-the-job training and probationary period at our Sydney-based office for the duration of this period. After this, and/or a  period determined by your manager, you may move into hybrid working.

More flexible working arrangements may be considered at the completion of your probationary period, dependent on your role and the needs of your team and the business.

Your Cover Letter

Call us old-fashioned, but we love a great cover letter. Make it human – we want to know all about you and your experience and how it relates to the role that you’re applying for,

To us, applying without a cover letter is like walking into a party, standing in the corner with your back to the room, and not saying ‘hi’ to people at the party.

A great cover letter tells us why you want to work with us, and explains your interest in our tech; your experience with healthcare, marketplaces, or recruitment; any transferable skills you have, and explains any career gaps or tells us something that your resume may not.

Got a special superpower that adds value to your candidacy? Let us know in your cover letter.

Got a portfolio of work? Drop in your links.

Done unpaid work or have a hobby that adds value to your candidacy? Tell us all about it!

You can do all that in your cover letter. We really look forward to reading yours.

Your Resume

On your resume, we look for aptitude and proven experience – in paid or unpaid work – and we value diversity in skills and experience when it will add value to the work that we do.

We expect you to quantify or qualify your skills with facts and figures or examples – tell us about the impact your work had – what was the outcome, or the result?.

Want to get an edge over other candidates? Show us what you can do – don’t just tell us what you were paid to do.

We expect to receive a resume and a cover letter at a minimum with applications. If you have a portfolio of work, make sure you include the links in your resume or cover letter.

What Happens After You Apply

We will always acknowledge your application, even when we don’t have advertised vacancies. We will get back to you within 72 hours of your application.

We typically have a 5-step process so we can get to know each other

1) Firstly, we will invite you to respond to specific questions explaining the type of experience you have, how much experience you have, and we will ask you to confirm other requirements as detailed in the job advertisement.

2) If you match our requirements for skills and experience, we will invite you to an informal phone chat. This telephone screening process enables us to clarify your experience and check that we’re a fit for each other.

3) The next stage will involve a more formal interview over 30 – 45 minutes. We’ll usually do this via Google Meet or Zoom chat so we can discuss in detail the work you have done, your working style and preferences, and the type of work that really lights you up (and what doesn’t!). Expect us to ask you about specific situations and examples related to the work you have done.

4) After this, we might invite you to a technical assessment which will take anywhere from 15 minutes to an hour depending on the role. Sometimes, we may do a technical assessment as a screen share so you can show us how you would complete a task in real-time. We’d always give you notice about this so you can brush up on your skills if needed. Other technical assessments will be given to you with plenty of notice and time to complete.

5) Dependent on your location, if its a remote or locally-based role, and covid restrictions permitting,  we’ll have a final meet and greet in our office space in Surry Hills, Sydney, NSW, Australia.

You can reach out to our recruitment team at any time throughout the process to ask us any questions.

How to Make Your Application Stand Out
  • Our people are our most valuable asset, and we acknowledge and value the unique skills and experience of everyone in our. Tell us about yours in your application and how it will add value to the role you’re applying for.
  • At uPaged, we’re all connected by our single-minded vision and work together for the same reason – to transform the delivery of healthcare worldwide. It’s just as important to us that potential new joiners to our  team are as invested in the work we do and the impact we’re having as the wider team.
  • Show us in your application that you really want to work for us, and tell us why.
  • Do you do some cool stuff outside of your day job that would enhance your application for a role with us? Show us! Share your projects with us. Or, feel feel to tell us in your cover letter how you think we can improve what we’re doing.
  • Keep in touch with us during your application process – sometimes we’re juggling hundreds of applications and even though we try really hard not to, on occasion we may miss following up when we say we will (we’re human, after all!)
What Happens If You're Not Successful This Time

When you’re not offered a position with us, we will usually ask if we can keep your details on file in case another position becomes available that we’re recruiting for, that you may be better suited to.

If you have been through interviews with us and really want to join our team, we encourage you to keep in touch with your recruitment contact – things change in start-up world almost daily.

X NOW CLOSED: Part-Time UI/UX Designer - SYDNEY X

ABOUT YOU

Our ideal applicant has at least 2 years work experience in user experience and user interface design; has a strong passion for solving complex design challenges, and has a strong portfolio of work demonstrating product designs that have achieved business results and created true value for customers.

The 2 main remits of this role are:

1. User experience design (UX)

2. User interface design (UI)

We’re looking for someone who sits at the intersection of all our technology assets and works with the teams responsible for technology development and growth.

The remit is expected to be as follows:

  • User Experience Design (UX): 50% of the role – you’ll work closely together with our product manager and development team to define and implement solutions for the product direction, visuals and experience. Our expectation is that you will conceptualise original ideas that bring simplicity and user friendliness to complex design roadblocks. You’ll need to collaborate cross-functionally to maintain a level of design consistency and coherence across the platform. The goal here is to make our products usable, enjoyable and accessible for our users. You’ll achieve this by doing everything from research, developing user flows, storyboards, running ideation sessions, considering the information architecture and content strategy, and creating wireframes for the proposed solution. Key to doing this well is presenting your designs and justifying design decisions to stakeholders.

  • User Interface Design (UI): 50% of the role – you will translate concepts, user research, flows and wireframes into mobile and web visual designs that lead to intuitive, aesthetically pleasing experiences that delight users. Designs should demonstrate the best experience through understanding and analysis of the user’s behaviour. You’ll create interactive prototypes to demonstrate your designs to the relevant teams and create high fidelity, annotated wireframes which represent the final product ready to be handed over to the developers. To do this well, you’ll need to be able to bring together user needs, business goals and technical realities through application of UX best practices, tools and documentation. Part of this involves establishing and promoting design guidelines, best practices and standards.

SKILLS:

A bachelor degree in a UX-related field is highly desirable, in addition to having the following diverse set of skills:

  • UX design experience – a strong portfolio showcasing end-to-end UX design work and proficiency in design tools such as Figma, Miro, Whimsical and good old fashioned pen and paper!
  • User research – able to conduct research effectively and able to understand who our users are, what they need and what would delight them, so that we can make products that are aligned with their needs.
  • Information architecture – understanding of responsive design, accessibility and design systems. This involves organising information in an understandable manner applicable to our website, app and other systems that tie in with that.
  • Wire-framing – able to define the elements that need to be present from page to page, including all the interface components that are needed for all possible interactions
  • Prototyping and usability testing – ensure there is a match between a system and its users before construction on the final product begins. Once problems have been identified, you will be required to go through several iterations before landing on a design that meets both business and user goals.
  • Visual communication – able to make things clickable, establish visual hierarchy, using typography and colour theory to your advantage.
  • Native mobile app and web UI design – experience developing beautiful, build-ready designs for web and mobile apps.
  • Design handover – working closely with developers to effectively handover you visual designs to make them come to life!
  • Developing and maintaining a design system – creating a set of standard, reusable design components for our web and mobile apps.

Having a basic understanding of application development and coding skills is considered a plus/bonus. Knowing the fundamentals of coding will help you to design wireframes, prototypes and user interfaces that can be built, which in turn will ease the load on our development team.

ABOUT YOU:

As our UI/UX Designer, you will have a well-rounded combination of soft, design and transferable skills that ensures that you can complete the varied tasks that come with this job. Most important is being exceptional at identifying and understanding specific user problems and designing products and services to address these problems in a way that centralises the user.

This isn’t a role for the faint-hearted – the role is diverse, busy, and we all take a sleeves-rolled-up approach to whatever needs to be done within the team, so a level of flexibility and adaptability so that you can jump in and help on other projects or roles within the team is needed.

You’ll be supporting the growth and development of our cool tech solution for the healthcare workforce. Some call it HealthRecTech (aka: Healthcare Recruitment Tech) but it’s a marketplace – we think of it as Amazon, Uber and Hinge in a mash-up with TripAdvisor.

A Bit About HeadBox

At HeadBox, our purpose is simple. We connect people and spaces to make brilliant things happen. But it’s not always been straightforward to hire or host at an amazing venue. In fact, prior to the company’s inception in 2015, it was the exact opposite. Our business was born from frustration at the outdated, slow, inefficient and time-consuming venue booking process that anyone looking to book a space had to endure.

Since then, we’ve uncovered more challenges faced by corporates, venue managers and people looking for venue space but our purpose has always remained the same. We’ve spent the last few years becoming obsessed with our customers and their problems so that we can build products, tools and features to make their lives easier. Think of it as human-kind event-tech. Our ecosystem of products make event and venue management simple, secure and transparent, whether you want to hire a space or host an event.

HeadBox Australia launched in 2020 led by Ali Lord, ex-Head of Events at Dentsu Aegis UK. In her previous role, Ali was one of the early adopters of the HeadBox Business technology and experienced first hand the benefits and efficiencies it provides corporations. Ali quickly knew this was a product she had to bring back to Australia.

HeadBox are now in the process of taking Australia by storm and are looking for a new team member to join us on this exciting journey.

X NOW CLOSED: Business Intelligence & Data Analyst X

Don’t let the job title deceive you – this is something else altogether that we’ve created so it’s perfectly matched to our business needs

Are numbers your thing? Are you a data wrangler? Are you all about the facts and figures and digging deep to identify trends and extract insights to inform business decisions? Do you want a challenging role that allows you to take a lead on getting under the skin of our business, determining where the data will come from and extracting it so that each business area can make key decisions about our users (healthcare talent) and customers (healthcare organisations), and business strategy? Are you bursting with ideas about how to do things better when it comes to business intelligence and using technology to help get you there? Keen to join a growing and innovative health-rec-tech startup? If so, we have the perfect job for you.

ABOUT THE ROLE: Your mission is to establish and then own the data analysis and business intelligence function for the business. This is a newly created hybrid role that combines data analysis and business intelligence functions and tasks – you’ll be determining where we gather information from, establishing the processes for extracting the data, and then reporting on that data in a timely manner.

The core of what you do will be building our ‘data lake’ and then working with team members to determine the schema required for each business function, to ensure we have the data and intelligence we need so we can outpace the competition, identify new opportunities, and avoid costly errors.

You’ll be working to deliver genuine insights for both sides of our marketplace, which serves healthcare organisations (B2B) (our paying customers), and healthcare workers (B2C) (our users).

You’ll work closely with subject matter experts from each business area (Finance, IT, Marketing, Product, Customer Success, Business Development and Operations) to establish what their data and business intelligence needs are, and support the founder as required.
You’ll be starting from zero to establish the volume, variety, veracity, velocity, visualisation and value points for the business.

Your remit:

  • Determine priorities for the collection, review and reporting of data required for each business function
  • Establish the what, how and when of the data we need and how it will be reported
  • Gather, review, critically evaluate, validate, organise and create great reports and/or dashboards and/or visualisations required for each business area
  • Create dashboards and nalyse data to find answers to specific questions from each business area and identify patterns and trends
  • Identify, track, and report on key measurements of success in product deployments to monitor the impact of features released to the market
  • Profile the landscape we are disrupting and develop our competitor analysis
  • Conduct data profiling to identify and understand anomalies
  • Plan and build customer-facing dashboards for reporting to our customers about their usage, costs, and more
  • You’ll work with the founder to provide brilliant data and insights to support our future capital raises

Our stack comprises React | React Native | Node.js | AWS | MongoDB | OneSignal | Sendgrid among others.

You’ll likely be a master of PowerBI and Tableau but as this role is a first, we’re happy for you to take a lead on the tools you need to do your job.

ABOUT YOU: Analysis is your superpower and data is your thing. You’re commercially aware and always have an eye on the big picture, and like to connect the dots across the business.

You’ll have a minimum of 1 year of full-time equivalent work experience, preferably gained in a corporate environment. Our ideal applicant can add value to the team with the experience or skills we don’t already have. We need someone who won’t just validate what we already know, or just tell us what we want to hear, but someone who can challenge us and uncover what don’t we know, that we don’t know.

You:

  • Have an insatiable desire to see businesses succeed and continually improve
  • Love report writing
  • Ask lots of questions and challenge the status quo
  • Have an abundance of energy, enthusiasm and positivity
